As the world is gradually remodelling with the introduction of newer technologies every day, Machine Learning is that one part which will leave a significant footmark in the world of technology.
Google has set its groundwork in the path of Artificial Intelligence by launching TensorFlow, an open source platform for Machine Learning which will give access to one of the most robust machine learning platforms ever developed.
What is TensorFlow?
TensorFlow is an open-source software library that will allow the building of systems that will break down data (unstructured data including photos and videos) and bring insights out of it which will help to make predictions for the future.
The system was built using positive reinforcement – essentially, the machine was given an image and asked if the image was a cat. If the machine was correct, it was told so. But if the machine was wrong, the system was adjusted to recognize different patterns in an image so that it was more likely to get it right next time.
Basically, TensorFlow sorts through layers of data, called nodes, to learn that the image its viewing is of a cat. The first layer will ask the system to look for something as basic as determining the general shape in the picture. The system then moves, or flows, to the next data set – like looking for paws in the photo.
Google’s Intelligence Lab
More than anything, the release gives the world’s largest internet company authority in artificial intelligence. However, this gives us the opportunity to take a glance at the thought process of a company like Google in building machine learning systems.
“Machine learning is a core, transformative way by which we’re re-thinking how we’re doing everything,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Google has been working for 3 years for developing this platform on artificial intelligence and it prefers to call it “Machine Intelligence”. Exploring theory as well as application, much of their work on language, speech, translation, visual processing, ranking and prediction relies on Machine Intelligence. A version is provided by Google (pre-built binaries) which the researchers can start using right now. There’s also an application programming interface (API), for software developers to train and control their TensorFlow models.
In the race to dominate machine learning and attract the best talent, however, other companies may release competing AI engines of their own.
