#1. India Government rolls out a SMAC (social, mobile, analytics, cloud) policy
Continuing with the exciting news from February – NATGRID integrating real-time analytics in its data centre and disaster recovery system – the analytics focus of the Indian Govt. continues with the SMAC technologies. The new e-Governance Programme (EGP) 2.0 also known as E-Kranti, plans to set up departments and business models incorporating these practices. The Govt. is already the largest repository of data, with 2.85 billion transactions between the Government and citizens in 2013 alone. With 20 states already having responded to the IT ministry’s proposal on SMAC, the news on analytics training and job opportunities opens up on the Government front!

CA Technologies has set-up a second technology center in Bangalore to focus exclusively on emerging technologies, in the areas of mobile solutions, digital payments, big data, data science, advanced analytics, devOps and security. From being a pure-play tech firm, CA technologies’ diversification into data science, IT security and advanced analytics, reaffirms the significance of analytics and statistical analysis in business processes.
#3. Big Data empowerment in retail gears up with Unilog’s double-edged launch
Unilog, a global technology and services company specializing in ‘big data analytics’ and ‘product data management for e-commerce’, has launched luxury brands through retail company Fervour.
So what’s it to do with Analytics? Unilog is gearing up with Big Data empowerment in retail. Data is King. The one who has data in this hyper-connected world, has the key to drive the same for insights and better business in countless ways. So this move may be interpreted as an overt play at getting hold of as much retail data.
#4. Another play to capitalise the country’s Big Data market – by Intel
Intel rolls out plans to tap India’s big data market with its real-time data analytics platform. The Big Data market in India is slated to be worth $1 billion by 2015. So Intel’s plan to leverage data as a strategic tool with in-memory analytics is another corporate strategy to tap India’s source of huge unstructured data.
